The University of Lincoln: use of benchmarking for strategic repositioning

The University of Lincoln 2007-2012 Strategic Plan identifies:

  • Where are we now? (top 10 competitors identified through UCAS)
  • Where are we going?

A revised Strategic Plan is now under preparation with a fresh set of competitors identified on the basis of:

  • Subject mix
  • Location
  • International students
  • 'Good' standing amongst the post-92 institutions

Lincoln's new Vice-Chancellor has focused on evidence-driven decision making. The range of KPIs has been simplified and new aspirational targets have been set to drive the revised Strategic Plan and to enable monitoring of progress as the University seeks to change.
